Transgender Student Slashed In Campus Restroom
Police are asking for the public’s help in finding whoever attacked a transgender student on the California State University, Long Beach campus last week.
University spokesman Rick Gloady said Friday the victim was approached by a man inside a restroom in a campus building the evening of April 15. The suspect said a first name and asked the student if he was that person.
When the student replied that he was, Gloady says the suspect pulled the student’s T-shirt over his head, pushed him into the stall and used a sharp object to slash the student’s chest. The suspect then fled the area.
KCAL9′s Melissa McCarty said police are still trying to confirm that this was a hate crime.
Gloady says the student was treated at a hospital and released the same evening.
University police believe it was an isolated incident.
